Now celebrating its 14th year, Dandenong Ranges Open Studios is an annual weekend program that invites visitors from the region and afar to meet, greet, witness and learn from artists working in their private studios. It is in these curious and inspirations environments that the artist’s creative practice truly comes to life. The 34 participating studios will open their doors for visitation on April 29 and 30, 2017.
It is a highly anticipated event that saw over 6500 studio visitations in 2016.
In 2017 we welcome an incredible suite of individual artists, an excellent array of emerging artists, and the choicest of collective studios. This year’s program highlights the true depth and breadth of creative practice in the hills – a testament to our history as a creatively vibrant and rich community.
As well as regular popular favorites such as painters, ceramicists, textile and collage artists, this years program features some exciting and fresh creativity, including:
- A 72 year old emerging artist;
- A tattooist;
- An astro-photographer;
- Costume designers;
- A polish mother and daughter collaboration;
- An eco dyer; and
- A newly formed 11 person emerging artist collective
Each studio involved in the program will also contribute to a major group exhibition at Burrinja. Based around the theme of DUALITY, the exhibition explores the artistic and creative process of oppositional forces – of nature, within ourselves, of practice.
The easy-to-use Open Studios guidebook will be available from Burrinja and throughout the Hills from February 2017.
Be ready to explore, enjoy and be inspired!
