Local Artist List

The Great Pause has us moving into our vast inner space of thoughts and imagination, reaching for books, images, photographs, media, art of all kinds to fill the sticky days of corona stretching around us. We are all seeking ways to ignite a sense of beauty, inspire hope for the future, combat the boredom, make sense of the nonsensical and maintain our connections to community.

One of the ways we can connect to our community is through supporting our local artists. Many of whom have a true passion for making our community a better place to live through their artwork.

There are many ways to support local artists, you can share their work on social media, attend their digital workshops, and if you are contemplating filling a blank wall, adding a new piece of jewellery, sculpture, clothing, writing, music, or any other creative experience to your collection look at your local options first.

With that in mind we have begun to curate a list of local artists of all persuasions which you can find here.

Artist Tracey Roberts This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ph: 0418 872 444 Tracey Roberts Tracey is a visual artist and music-colour synesthete (one who involuntarily sees colours and shapes when listening to music). Through her own diverse journey as a musician and performer, and with many years of varied experience in the music arena, Tracey's images are rich, colourful depictions of a multitude of musical themes. Many of her art exhibitions include a musical performance, which is, of course, intrinsically part of her work and she is always happy to discuss her music and artwork and how they are inextricably linked. In 2013 she released her first video music / art release on Blu-ray which is a 30 minute instrumental improvised piano concert and small interviews about music and selected artwork pieces. She has recently been exploring vivid landscapes of the flinders ranges in large bold works with colour and expression. Steven Firman Creative individual, currently Artist in Residence at Box Hill Community Arts Centre for 2020. Steven immersed himself in German culture, whilst living there for three years with his family (2011-2014). During this time she travelled widely throughout Europe. Since returning to the Dandenong Ranges, he has begun a new series of painting, under the working title, Tree Change. Inspired by the natural world, with a nod to Escher and Magritte, Steven's paintings seek to capture the irrational world of a child where real places become the setting for magical things to happen. (also lived in Tasmania for 18 years) She is a mother of four boys and has worked in the media and graphic design industry for around twenty-six years, connecting with people from all over the world. She loves drawing and painting large photo realistic images inspired by nature, reflections and water droplets. She is the Managing Director and owner of KAPI ART SPACE, a Studio Gallery in the Dandenong Ranges, Australia, where the mission is to bring individuals and groups fully alive in their creative dreams! Artist Jessie Yvette Journoud-Ryan ph: Jessie Yvette Journoud-Ryan Jessie is a French and Australian practising Melbourne artist and works with a vast range of media, from ceramics, printmaking and sculpture. through to painting. Her current work reflects and draws from past connections and experimentation with Crockery, Collage and Sculpture. Jessie's sculptural compositions of repurposed crockery are a celebration of nature and lavish tableware. Fables, birds, music and willow pattern all feature in her sculptures. As a French-Australian artist and Fine Arts educated on both shores - Jessie's work reflects her personal narratives of migration, belonging and cultural heritage. Gerard is located in the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne's Backyard. He is responsible for every element of every light box, from sourcing and milling the recycled timber to wiring, etching, constructing and of course, the artwork that goes on them. Each light box utilises LED lighting within its custom enclosure. The artwork itself is forthright, where even the texture of the brush-strokes can be seen in the etched sheen of the metal surface. Unlike a traditional frame, the copper faceplate is mounted before the finishing of the walls takes place, creating a genuine cross-section design of copper, light and timber. Artist Lisa Hass ph: Lisa Hass Lisa Hass aka Lasercut Australia makes personalised acrylic jewellery which appeared on the "Hot or Not" segment of the Living Room TV and worn by Miguel Maestro. Formed as a visual dialogue between gesture and geometry, this ever changing place is expressed through a symbolic language of emotion and reason. This is a response to the shifting nature, and impermanence of living each day. Artist Rain White ph: Rain White Rain's practice explores the elemental energy of earth. Our existence is ephemeral and groundless, and for her nature holds eternal comfort and stability. Rain's art is a development of a personal symbolic language and motifs. She is inspired by philosophy, life experiences, natural forms, many artists, Sumie ink painting and research into ancient cultures, their sites of significance and symbols as a method of communication. She is interested in the notion of the icon and symbol, to universally resonate a sensation of quiet and profound power and stillness. Symbolic forms resonate through the passage of time beyond words and tap into our collective unconscious and what it is to be human. Having majored in Printmaking and choose to let ideas dictate the medium. She is primarily two dimensional based but find three dimensional forms increasingly enticing. Rain enjoys the challenge of working with a diversity of materials combined with exploring the emotional and visual impact of colour. Ink, oil and collage are favourite means of expression for her. As Rumi has said; 'The day you were born, a ladder was set up to help you escape from this world'. Art has been this ladder for her. Image credit

Her works range in size from an impressive 1.5 square metres to more delicate 30 square cm. Her subject matter varies from the purely decorative, abstract, and landscapes, to figurative representations of her personal interpretation of the world and its issues.
