On Residence.

In 2021, Dancehouse is piloting a new residency program: On Residence, offering Australian independent dance artists time, space and cash to create and connect with Dancehouse's network of dance-loving organisations and their communities in outer-metropolitan and regional Victoria and NSW.

Burrinja Cultural Centre | Upwey, Vic
Garambi Baan / Laughing Waters | Eltham, Vic
Punctum | Castlemaine, Vic
Orbost Studio for Dance Research | Orbost, Vic
FLING Physical Theatre | Bega, NSW
Bundanon | Illaroo, NSW

This paid opportunity is flexible and adaptable. It moves with you, your project or work, and the host partners’ specific context. On Residence supports any stage
of a dance project or work's development from initial research through to creative development.
This first round of On Residence will support at least 6 residencies between July 2021 and June 2022.
On Residence is a direct pathway to future presentation or realisation of projects with Dancehouse from 2022 — this might be on site at Dancehouse or offsite through affiliated partnerships or contexts.
With On Residence Dancehouse will support artists to develop works and projects at any stage, establish relationships and connections with Dancehouse, communities, practices, and partners. The program draws on Dancehouse's experience cultivating similar meaningful alliances internationally.
Locally and globally, our collective experience of COVID and climate emergency demand we connect and form stronger local networks and deeper relationships.

This year, Burrinja's On Residence recipient artist is Callum Mooney who will developing their work COSMOS.

Cosmos' is an inter-disciplinary work-in-development exploring the three levels of consciousness, life, dreams death. This will be explored through dynamic movement, contemporary dance dramaturgy, sound design and projection mapping. The idea being that our thoughts in our waking consciousness carry through to our unconscious brain in our dreams, and into our after-life. Our consciousness can be transported out of our physical bodies as they are impermanent vessels carrying our true selves that are realised into the universe post-death.
Callum is an Australian artist that has been working in dance theatre and film. Originally from a hip hop background before predominately focusing on contemporary. He has worked with the Dream Dance Company in the productions of 'The Secret Society' and 'Enter the Vortex.' Callum has been a featured dance artist for Suzuki, Cartier, ALDI and Kingswood.
Callum has also completed a Diploma of Film and Interactive Media focusing on video editing and artistic direction through cinematography. He incorporates this knowledge through his work with video art and projection work for live dance.
