Tottie Goldsmith in
Sex with Strangers
A Love Story for the 21st Century
Sex with Strangers explores the complex relationship between authors and their adoring fans and the tensions between old and new literature; old and new love.
A play that makes timely and insightful observations about the foibles of first impressions, ‘Sex with Strangers’ delves into the complexities of love and relationships in the digital age, and the Gen X – Gen Y divide.
Samuel Johnson (Secret Life of Us and Rush) and Tottie Goldsmith (Starting out and Prisoner) star in this dark, sexy and funny play about the lives of two people equally capable of ambition, kindness and cruelty.
Trapped in a rural writer’s retreat by a snowstorm, serious writer turned professor, Olivia is settling down to write her second novel. In from the snow walks Ethan, a brash, handsome, highly successful, Gen-Y blogger with aspirations of literary legitimacy. Olivia succumbs to his obvious charm and seemingly poetic soul. But can love really bloom between an old-school book lover and a man whose publicity-generating exaggerated tell-all memoir “Sex with Strangers” chronicles his rambunctious sex-ploits on an internet blog?
First staged by Chicago’s Steppenwolf theatre in 2011, and more recently at the Sydney Theatre Company and off-Broadway, this is story telling at its best. Sex with Strangers makes timely and insightful observations about the foibles of first impressions and about love and relationships in the digital age.
How far will Olivia and Ethan go to get what they want?

‘I said I was a good mother. They said I was a bad mother.
I didn’t know what they meant’
A one-woman play written for acclaimed, award winning actor Noni Hazlehurst, Mother is the newest work from Daniel Keene (Boxman, 2013) directed by his long-time collaborator Matt Scholten.
A fictional story based on the writings of Dorothy Hewett and the ancient Greek play Medea, Mother is a uniquely Australian piece of theatre that honestly tackles the issues of motherhood, poverty and isolation. The combination of powerful script writing, tender direction and Noni’s magnetising performance make for a surprisingly touching and insightful night of intimate theatre.
Christy is a homeless, aging woman, living on the outskirts of suburbia. She is something of a celebrity, attracting the curiosity of the locals, she’s not shy of an audience and amuses herself with telling anyone who will listen to the story of her colourful, troubled life.
One of Australia’s leading actresses, Noni Hazlehurst has received two Logies for her performances in the mini-series Waterfront and Ride on Stranger as well as four AFI Awards for Little Fish, Waiting At The Royal, Fran and Monkey Grip.
If you only see one piece of drama this year, make sure it is Mother – a story and a performance not to be missed.
