La Boheme Retold
Utassy Ballet School & Nicholas Chamber Orchestra
An ultimate tragedy, Puccini’s classic Opera adaption for ballet.
In 2011 Utassy Dance Company performed at of the opening of the new 400 seat, Burrinja Theatre presenting excerpts from their 50th Anniversary Playhouse season, along with The Nicholas Chamber Orchestra who presented Peter and the Wolf with a narration by Derek Guille.
Collaborating once again, on Kevin Hocking adaptation of Puccini’s Opera La Boheme, audiences will be delighted with a brand new production of La Boheme Retold accompanied by a 40 piece orchestra on stage.
The flavour is still French, drawing on the influences of 1840’s industrial revolution; Utassy Dance Company setting for La Boheme Retold is more recent. In place of Café Momex, they use the device of the circus (and within it a pantomime poking fun at French Royalty).
By kind permission of the West Australian Ballet Company Arrangement for Ballet Kevin Hocking

SEUSSICAL The Musical
St Joseph’s College – Celebrating 50 Years
To celebrate our 50th Year St Joseph’s College is staging a very special production of SEUSSICAL The Musical.
This fantastical family musical is based on the books of Dr. Seuss, bringing to life all of your favourite characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Getrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colourful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
The Cat in the Hat tells the Story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many ‘thinks’. Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Maysie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community and challenged and emerge triumphant.
